My Philosophy of Education

Coaching gymnastics for six years has allowed me to work with many different children of all ages, types, and personalities. The children have learned many things from me throughout my coaching career, but they have also taught me more then  I could have ever imagined. It is through coaching that I discovered my passion for teaching and for children.

My years of teaching gymnastics have proven that every child is capable of learning and thriving in the right environment and under the right circumstances. I believe that all children should have equal learning opportunities to assure that every child is given the chance to succeed. I would like to create a warm, nurturing environment, where every child feels accepted, safe and at ease. No child should ever be scared to come to school or scared to share his or her thoughts and opinions in class. I like to think of teachers as facilitators of knowledge; it is our job to make learning as easy and enjoyable as possible.

As a teacher I will get to know myself in order to improve on my weaknesses and use my strengths to create the best potential learning environment possible. I believe that in order to create a positive learning environment, I should be caring, respectful, understanding, and attentive. The class is ultimately a reflection of me; therefore I should demonstrate the qualities I would like to see the children attain. I also believe that every teacher should know his or her students’ personalities, as well as their strengths and weaknesses and should adapt their teaching styles accordingly to meet the needs of each individual.

I believe that parents should be strongly involved in their child’s learning experience. The teacher should work alongside the parents for the best interest of the child. A teacher cannot accomplish everything on their own, and should use every resource available to them. In my previous experience I’ve always found that close relationships with the parents help a great deal because it assures that the teacher and parents are on the same page and can combine their knowledge of the child to be able to best serve them.
